City to Expand Snow Emergency Regulations City-Wide

***Update – March 17, 2017***: Snow Emergency Regulations Expanded City-Wide

City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison announced this afternoon, that in order to facilitate removal of snow from certain sections of the City of Poughkeepsie, the snow emergency – put into effect at 12:00 am on Tuesday, March 14th, which originally covered only snow emergency routes – will now be expanded City-wide.

Snow Emergency Proclamation – March 16, 2017, 4:30 pm»

This City-Wide snow emergency will provide the City the ability to remove cars from the street if necessary to facilitate snow removal. This snow removal operation is necessary to provide safe passage and transit throughout the City. The amount of snow piled along City streets and intersections is causing visibility issues not only for drivers, but for pedestrians – along with school students.

The City will notify the public in advance of the designated areas that will see these snow removal operations. This operation will continue throughout the weekend and will be extended as necessary.

The City will utilize both City resources and private contractors to remove snow from city streets and sidewalks and transport to secondary locations.

We will use print media, social media, the City’s e-newsletter and outreach on a street by street basis as to minimize any disruption to street parking. To sign up for the City’s e-newsletter, click here.

The following streets are slated for snow removal operations starting this evening, March 16, 2017:

  • Gifford Avenue
  • Duane Street
  • Dean Place
  • Franklin Street
  • Garden Street
  • Charles Street
  • Market Street
  • Cannon Street
