City of Poughkeepsie and Hudson River Housing advance efforts to address vacant properties

WHAT: A vacant, blighted property at 85 Smith Street in the City of Poughkeepsie will come down this week. The property, which experienced a fire in 2015 and has long been a locus of criminal activity, represents the struggle of the residents in the neighborhood, the City of Poughkeepsie, and organizations like Hudson River Housing to address the issue of vacant properties.

WHO: City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison will join Hudson River Housing officials to mark the start of demolition of the property. Hudson River Housing plans to construct a new two-family home on the site, which will be sold to a first-time homebuyer and include an affordable rental unit. Hudson River Housing is committed to increasing opportunities for homeownership in the local community and expanding the availability of affordable housing.

WHEN: Tuesday, December 19th at 9am

WHERE: 85 Smith Street, Poughkeepsie
