Mayor Urges City Residents to Be Vigilant of Neighboring Vacant Properties

In light of recent fires at three vacant properties in the City of Poughkeepsie (13 Harrison Street, 25 Hewlett Road, and 8 Worrall Avenue), Mayor Rob Rolison has urged residents to be vigilant of any activity at a known vacant or abandoned property.  If someone sees anyone trespassing or any other activity at one of these properties, they should call 911.

Anyone with information about these fires is urged to call the City of Poughkeepsie Tip Line at 845-451-7577.

Traffic Advisory: Intersection Hooker and Woodland Avenue

A vehicle hit and damage the traffic light controller at the intersection of Hooker and Woodland Avenue on Thursday, July 16th. Temporary stop signs have been placed on both Woodland and Mildred Avenues.

Wednesday July 15th, Robinson Excavators have closed N Clinton Street. They will be working on lanes bordering the Mansion Square Park, between the north and south Mansion Street. Work zones are in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated

Road Work Notice – Lincoln Avenue

Contractors have closed the south bound lane on Lincoln Avenue between Columbia and Reade Place, Monday, July 13th, 2015, to repair an undermining road condition. Work zones are in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

City to Embark on Important Energy Saving Project

The City of Poughkeepsie Common Council approved unanimously the financing of $3.2 Million for the City’s LED Project. Phase I of the project will replace 1,880 pole lights owned by the City with energy saving LED lights. Working under an Energy Performance Program, the City is projected to have savings of over $400,000 on its City street light bills on the very first year of operation. The City is also expected to earn $190,000 in grants from NYSERDA. The City’s target is to complete Phase I before the FERC increases, which can raise rates between 20% – 40%, are implemented.

Embarking on this all important energy saving, green project, Mayor Tkazyik commented, “The City is facing spiraling costs in energy. We saw the LED project as a major step in rolling back these costs and providing the City with a long-term commitment to green energy.”

City Lowers Flags in Honor of Fallen NYPD Officers

Poughkeepsie Mayor John C. Tkazyik has ordered all flags on City buildings to be flown at half-staff until Wednesday at noon in honor of NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos who were brutally slain in the line of duty on Saturday, December 20th in Brooklyn.
The Mayor offers his sincerest condolences to the family of the officers and to the brave men and women of the NYPD.

Update: Procedures for Upcoming Snowstorm in City of Poughkeepsie

In anticipation of the snowstorm, whichever side of the street you are parked legally on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, please continue parking on that same side through Saturday, November 29, 2014 to facilitate the clearing of snow by the Department of Public Works. Also, remember to shovel your fire hydrants.

Please note that due to the holiday, there is no garbage pick-up on Thursday or Friday. The City of Poughkeepsie Transfer Station is closed on Saturday.

On Friday, November 28, 2014, City buses will run on a Saturday schedule.
