Recently, the City of Poughkeepsie received notice from banks and mortgage institutions that they will not honor the Common Council resolution of December 2013. They will not pay the sanitation portion of the tax bills that were mailed to the escrow financial institutions. These involved over 2100 escrow accounts from over 70 institutions, including over 400 from one local bank. The City had no obligation to inform the taxpayers involved of their financial institutions’ decision. As a matter of customer service, the City decided to inform our residents and taxpayers involved of their financial institutions’ decision. Please see the attached letter sent to almost 1800 residents and taxpayers. The City has received very positive responses to the letters.
