Mayor Rolison and Common Council Seek Arts Commission Members

City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison announced today that the Public Arts Commission is seeking letters of intent for those interested in serving.

The Commission was created in July by executive order of the Mayor and holds the purpose and authority to advocate for the role and value of arts and culture in civic life by expanding community awareness and the presence of art in various ways.

The commission will consist of seven (7) members: three (3) appointed by the Mayor, three (3) appointed by the Common Council, and (1) shall be appointed by majority vote of the Commission.

The Common Council’s initial appointments serve a two (2) year term of office and the Mayor’s initial appointments shall serve a three (3) year term of office.  After the initial terms of office, all commission posts shall be for three (3) year terms of office.

Members must be residents of the City of Poughkeepsie consisting of working artists, arts professionals, and community members with an interest in the arts that represent the diverse community of the City of Poughkeepsie.


Letters of intent will be accepted until October 13, 2016.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to the Charter and Codes of the City of Poughkeepsie, Administrative Code, Section 14.04, a Common Council Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 6:00 p.m., in the Common Council Chambers, Third Floor, Municipal Building/City Hall, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, New York, for the purpose of receiving comments on proposed Ordinance, establishing a fee in lieu of parkland.

Skills, the Catherine Street Community Center, Summer Camp programs, CC4C, youth-friendly employers and more…all gathered under one roof!

Light refreshments will be served.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Common Council of the City of Poughkeepsie will convene the 2014 Organizational Meeting on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 6:00 p.m., in the Common Council Chambers, Third Floor of City Hall/Municipal Building, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, New York.  Immediately following at 6:30 p.m., the regular Common Council Meeting for January 2, 2014 will be held.
