Photos from the Fallkill Creek cleanup group during the 2014 Riverkeeper Sweep on Saturday May 10th. The Fallkill watershed drains over 12,000 acres of land into the Hudson River, and the Fallkill Creek and its tributaries reach out over five Dutchess County municipalities before draining into the Hudson in the City of Poughkeepsie at Upper Landing. The land use surrounding the creek in the City of Poughkeepsie is highly urbanized and receives much litter and garbage, as well as illegal dumping of large waste items.
We all need to do our part to keep litter from entering the creek and the Hudson River so that these amazing resources can be enjoyed by the community. This year, at the Fallkill creek site alone, volunteers picked up six full, 42 gallon bags of trash and one full, 42 gallon bag of recyclables in just a three-hour period. Great job to those that stepped up to help out!
