“Crossing Waters”, a documentary film by Jane Watson and produced by Franc Palaia
The City of Poughkeepsie and Mayor John Tkazyik will host a sneak peek mini-screening of the documentary film, Crossing Waters, directed by Jane Watson.
Join executive producer, Franc Palaia, historians George Lukacs, Harvey Flad and others for an evening of viewing edited segments of the film, a lively discussion and light refreshments in the Council Chamber, on the third floor Thursday, Oct. 24th from 7-9pm.
Crossing Waters is the first comprehensive film that tells the story of immigration in the First Ward, or better known as Mt. Carmel/ Little Italy, Poughkeepsie.
The film begins in the 1850s when waves of Irish, Polish and Italian immigrants struggled and labored on the railroads, bridges, quarries to build a society that eventually became the story of America.
The screening includes clips of rare archival images and footage, many have never been seen before of Vassar women, IBM, FDR along with contemporary interviews with politicians, authors, historians, artists and merchants from the historic neighborhood. Come and see the early stages of the upcoming one -hour full -length documentary to be released in 2014.
