City of Poughkeepsie to Open Cooling Center – Tuesday, July 30, 2019

The City of Poughkeepsie will open a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday July 30 at the Public Safety Building located at 505 Main Street.

The Adriance Memorial Library, 93 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, also will operate a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. And the Salvation Army Poughkeepsie Corps Community Center, 19 Pershing Avenue, Poughkeepsie, will operate a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.

City of Poughkeepsie & Salvation Army Open Warming Centers – Thursday, January 31, 2019

The City of Poughkeepsie will open a warming center at the Public Safety Building located at 505 Main Street on Thursday, January 31 from 8:00am – 5:00pm. 

Additionally, the Poughkeepsie Corps of the Salvation Army located at 19 Pershing Avenue will open a warming center on Thursday, January 31 from 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Individuals who need a warm place during the day are encouraged to utilize these centers.

Our friends at Hudson River Housing, Inc. put together following information for anyone who needs additional housing assistance:

  • Call or text the Dutchess County HELPLINE at 845-485-9700 or walk in to the Stabilization Center at 230 North Road Poughkeepsie.
  • Visit the Dutchess Outreach Lunch Box and Mental Health America Living room at the Family Services Partnership Center at 29 N. Hamilton Street in Poughkeepsie for free meals at lunchtime and a place to stay during the day.
  • Overnight emergency housing is available through Hudson River Housing 365 nights a year. To access housing come to the screening site at 29 N. Hamilton by 6:30pm. They will not turn anyone away—once the 60 beds are full, they will provide overflow room and have arranged partnerships with local churches to provide shelter and a warm, safe night’s sleep.
