The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department consists of more than 96 sworn members and approximately 34 civilians, which include 13 dispatchers.
The department is divided into specific sections:

Civilian Patrol Program
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is in the process of forming a Civilian Patrol Program. Civilian Patrol is a neighborhood watch program where responsible citizens volunteer to patrol their neighborhoods and report criminal activity to the Police Department. A steering committee has been formed and they are actively reviewing the rules, regulations, and operating procedures required by the program.

Business Contact Registration
Businesses located within the City of Poughkeepsie can register their emergency contact information with the Police & Fire Departments by completing the online report below.
Walk-in registrations are done at the Juvenile Division office on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10AM to 2PM. Applicants must bring Identification and Proof of Purchase along with the bicycle to be registered. If no proof of purchase is available, then person must complete Affidavit of Ownership. Registration of bicycles over 20 inches is required for all City residents.

Child Car Seat Program
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department offers child car seats and installation to income-eligible citizens. The car seats are made available through a grant from the New York State Child Passenger Safety Program to all City residents meeting the income guidelines and criteria listed below:
- Applicant must be a City of Poughkeepsie resident with proof of residency (Utility bill with City address)
- Income Verification – present a valid benefit card or other Department of Social Services document
- Applicant must be the registered owner of the vehicle in which the car seat is installed
- Photo ID is required (driver’s license or benefit card)
