Water Main Repair – Miller Road – September 7, 2018

Update (11:30am):  The water main leak is still affecting approximately 26 houses in the Miller Hill area, from Hewlett Road to Wilbur Blvd. It is a broken section of pipe that is a larger job than we anticipated. The goal is to get this section repaired and back in service by 6:00PM today.

The Department of Public Works Water Division has responded to a water main break located on Miller Road.  During the repairs, water service will be temporarily interrupted in the surrounding area (Miller Road, Hewlett Road, Wantaugh Avenue).  The crews are working to complete the repair and restore water service as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

Response to July 2018 Combined Sewage Overflow

Poughkeepsies’ Water Treatment Facility

3431 North Road
Poughkeepsie, New York 12601

Response to July 2018 Combined Sewage Overflow

Earlier this week there was a combined storm water/sewage overflow into the Hudson River roughly 2 miles downstream of our drinking water treatment facility.  Upon the occurrence the City of Poughkeepsie notified DEC through NY Alert.  Monitoring at the treatment facility did not identify any impact to our water supply.

Our intake is located 1,500 feet into the river and 5-feet from the river bottom.  River flow throughout the period exceeded 1,000,000,000 gallons per day (gpd) while our intake flow averaged 12,000,000 gpd.  Dilution and the distance our intake is from the spill would make impact to our facility unlikely.  The treatment facility operated normally including three phases of disinfection which includes Ozonation, Ultraviolet Light and Chlorination.
