Water Main Repair – Beechwood Avenue

Update: Due to the weather, the road closure and water main repair work on Beechwood Avenue scheduled for Tuesday, January 23rd has been moved to Thursday, January 25th.

The following street will be closed to through traffic, allowing limited, immediate local access only, Thursday, January 25, 2018, for water main repairs:

  • Beechwood Avenue – between Santa Anna Drive in the City of Poughkeepsie and Marcinelli Court in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Drivers are to expect delays and/ or are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Drivers attempting to access the City of Poughkeepsie local streets from Route 9 should use Sharon Drive until work is completed.

The City of Poughkeepsie Department of Public Works, in conjunction with Sun Up Enterprises Inc., will be repairing a water main on Beechwood Avenue.  Residents in this area may experience a temporary disruption in their water service and/ or low water pressure.  Once the repairs are made and the water is restored to a permanent capacity, residents are instructed to run their water until clear (if cloudy or discolored).

Work zones and flaggers will be in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

Precautionary Boil Water Notice for Affected Properties

Currently a total of five (5) properties are connected via temporary water service on Beechwood Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie, which are the properties to be mainly affected by this work. Due to this portion of water main losing pressure and the use of temporary water service, a Precautionary Boil Water Notice has been issued to those affected properties.  The notice has been hand delivered the evening of Sunday, January 21, 2018.  This notice is expected to last until January 25, 2018.  Those properties will be informed when tests show that there is no longer a need to boil their water.  The suspension of that notice will also be delivered in the same manner as the original notification.

Water Main Repair – Mill Street (January 9, 2018)

The following street is closed today, Tuesday, January 9, 2018, for water main repairs:

  • Mill Street between North Bridge Street and North Perry Street

The City of Poughkeepsie Water Department is repairing a water main leak on Mill Street. Residents in this area may experience a temporary disruption in their water service and/or low water pressure. Once the repairs are made and the water is restored, residents are instructed to run their water until clear (if cloudy or discolored).

Work zones are in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

Road Work Notice – North Clover Street – December 20, 2017

North Clover Street, between Main Street and Mill Street, is temporarily closed due to water main repairs. Residents in his area may experience a temporary disruption in their water service and/or low water pressure. Once the main is repaired and water service is restored, residents are asked to run the water until clear.

Road Work Notice (Bement Ave.) – December 7, 2017

The following intersection is closed today, Thursday, December 7, 2017, for paving work:

  • Bement Avenue, at Winnikee Avenue/WB Arterial ramp.

Work zones are in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

Financial Plaza Deck Main Entrance Closed for Construction – November 10, 2017

On Friday, November 10, 2017, the main entrance to the Financial Plaza Deck Garage will be closed.  Patrons can access the garage via the Garden Street rear entrance.  The Barney Building at 1 Civic Center Plaza will be using a crane to change the air handlers on their roof.

Please also note the Transit Hub will be open and operating, though the rear section (near the Financial Plaza Deck) will be closed.

Road Work Notice: Hydrant Repair – South Avenue

UPDATE: The hydrant on South Avenue has been repaired and is now back in service. Water service to the area has been restored. If you experience cloudy or discolored water, please run the water until clear.

The City of Poughkeepsie Water Department is working in the area of South Avenue this morning (Tuesday, November 7th) to make emergency repairs to a fire hydrant.

While the repairs are being made, South Avenue, between Livingston Street and Academy Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic. Residents in this area may experience a temporary disruption in their water service and/or low water pressure.  Work zones are in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

Road Work Notice – November 1, 2017

Today, Wednesday, November 1st, 2017, the following City street will be closed:

  • Mansion Street between Winnikee Avenue and Morgan Avenue.

The City of Poughkeepsie Water Dept will be replacing the hydrant on the corner of Mansion @ Winnikee.

Work zones will be in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

Road Work Notice – October 27, 2017

Central Hudson contractor, Posillico Civil, will be closing North Clinton Street between the Westbound Arterial and Mansion Street, for approximately 2 hours, beginning at 11:30 am today.

Work zones will be in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated if necessary.

Road Work Notice: October 26, 2017

The following roads are closed today, Thursday, October 26, 2017:

  • Thompson Street, between Smith Street and Bement Avenue, for gas service installation on Thompson Street.
  • Carroll Street, between Franklin Street and Barclay Street, for water line repairs.

Work zones are in place and emergency vehicles will be accommodated.

 

Leaf Collection Schedule – Fall 2017

The Department of Public Works will begin collecting loose leaves from the curb beginning Monday, November 6th, 2017.  The loose leaf vacuum truck will enter each City ward for the collection of loose leaves as scheduled below. After December 1st, 2017, leaf crews will concentrate in City wards with higher tree populations. Loose leaf collection in City parks will begin once all City streets are visited by the vacuum truck. Weather permitting, DPW plans to end the loose leaf collection on December 29th, 2017.

Please have loose leaves raked out to the curb beginning November 2nd, 2017 and ending on the dates listed below.  The last day for raking leaves to the curb for vacuum truck service is as follows:

  • NOVEMBER 6, MONDAY….1st Ward & 2nd Ward
  • NOVEMBER 13, MONDAY….3rd Ward & 5th Ward
  • NOVEMBER 20, MONDAY….6th Ward & 7th Ward
  • NOVEMBER 27, MONDAY…  4th Ward & 8th Ward

For the month of October and after the above listed dates, residents should place their loose leaves and brush in paper yard debris bags or trash containers (free of garbage) for collection.  DPW will have a separate truck collecting leaves in paper yard debris bags placed at the curb every Wednesday of the week beginning November 6th, 2017, ending December 27th, 2017.

LEAF SEASON REMINDERS:

  • Please rake leaf piles to the curb or at the end of the pavement.  DO NOT PLACE LOOSE LEAVES IN THE STREET. KEEP ALL STORM DRAINS FREE OF LOOSE LEAVES.
  • Hired landscapers should be aware of the above end dates for leaf piles and that the city has an ordinance prohibiting the blowing and/or piling of leaves in the street.
  • When loose leaves and yard debris are bagged, only biodegradable paper bags must be used.  NO PLASTIC.
