Recycling, Sanitation, & Transfer Station
This section of DPW keeps the city clean by providing twice weekly residential curb-side collections and once a week recycling collections including yard debris for city residents. It is also responsible for street sweeping and the enforcement of sanitation ordinances. In addition, it operates the City of Poughkeepsie Transfer Station, Bulk Service Program, and Composting Facility. The Composting Facility provides free compost to city residents.
Cardboard Recycling Update
Effective 4/07/08, corrugated cardboard will be collected on your regular recycling day. Preparation remains the same - cardboard is to be flattened, cut into 3 foot lengths, bundled, tied and put at the curb. Wednesday corrugated cardboard collection ends on 4/2/08.

There is no curbside trash or recycling collection and the transfer station is closed on the following city holidays:
January 1 (Tuesday) - New Year’s Holiday

May 26 (Monday) - Memorial Day
Next trash pick up for Monday/Thursday routes is Thursday May 29. Next recyclable pick up is Monday June 2
July 4 (Friday) - Independence Day
Next trash pick up for Tuesday/Friday routes is Tuesday July 8. Next recyclable pick up is Friday July 11
September 1 (Monday) - Labor Day
Next trash pick up for Monday/Thursday routes is Thursday September 4. Next recyclable pick up is Monday September 8.
November 27 (Thursday) - Thanksgiving Day
Next trash pick up for Monday/Thursday routes is Monday December 1. Next recyclable pick up is Thursday December 4.
December 25 (Thursday) - Christmas Day
Next trash pick up for Monday/Thursday routes is Monday December 29. Next recyclable pick up is Thursday January 8, 2009.
