City Takes Steps to Make it Easier for People to Gain Access to Public Documents

The city announced today an online system that will make it much easier for people to gain access to public records.

This online, user-friendly portal will improve transparency and efficiency when the public files Freedom of Information requests with the city.

The city also recently unveiled a website that includes expanded options and provides easy access and ways to get the latest news, events, meetings, agendas and much more. The new website, www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com, was launched in late September. The city followed that up with the creation of a website, www.cityofpoughkeepsiearp.org, which enables the public to find out more about the federal American Rescue Plan Act, provide important feedback and track the city’s use of these funds.

“These changes in the digital age are substantial,” said Mayor Rob Rolison. “We continue to innovate and provide the public with the tools necessary to stay engaged and informed about the workings of its city government. We believe this latest change will streamline the open records request process for our residents.”

The city is utilizing JustFOIA software to better serve the community and simplify the request process. While other methods for submitting requests are still available, city officials are pleased to be able to offer a more convenient option.

“We are excited to launch this new program and improve transparency and efficiency with this new, user-friendly FOIL request software,” said Chamberlain Jasmin Nicole Davis. “Citizens will be able to create personalized log-ins and will receive unique security keys to access and track the status of their FOIL requests. We will continue to look for new ways to evolve with technology, reduce paper and better serve our citizens with advanced digital solutions.”

All Freedom of Information requests for public records at City of Poughkeepsie, including the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, can be made using the new system. For those looking to make a Freedom of Information request, the online request form is available at www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com/FOIL
