PUBLIC NOTICE REQUESTING LETTERS OF INTEREST TO SERVE ON THE DUTCHESS COUNTY LEGISLATURE TO FILL THE VACANCY LEFT WITHIN THE 10th LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT.
The City of Poughkeepsie and Dutchess County has suffered an immeasurable loss with the passing of Dutchess County Legislator Barbara Jeter-Jackson. Through her work on the Poughkeepsie School Board, the Poughkeepsie Common Council, the Dutchess County Legislature, and throughout the community, Barbara Jeter-Jackson offered decades of selfless, exemplary, and upstanding service toward the betterment of our entire community. She embodied the work. My love and thoughts to her family, friends, and our entire community.
As of Tuesday, May 26, 2020, I am in receipt of a letter from the Dutchess County Clerk regarding the vacancy left by Barbara’s passing, a seat that represents District 10 of the Dutchess County Legislature. The procedure to fill such a vacancy is established by the Dutchess County Charter and the Dutchess County Administrative Code. According to Section 2.04 of the Dutchess County Administrative Code, the Common Council of the City of Poughkeepsie shall convene to select an interim successor within 20 days of the receipt of notification of the vacancy from the Dutchess County Clerk. In accordance with Section 2.13 of the Dutchess County Charter, the vacancy is filled by a majority vote of the whole City Council.
