Common Council Special Meeting – September 16, 2020

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Section 2.04 of the City Charter, the Common Council of the City of Poughkeepsie will hold a Special Meeting on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 6:30 p.m., and will be held via videoconferencing, (as permitted by the NYS Open Meetings Law).

COMMON COUNCIL CHAIR SALEM DECLARES TWO SPECIAL MEETINGS TO HEAR AN APPEAL FROM AIA TINKELMAN ARCHITECTURE ON THE DECISION OF THE HISTORIC DISTRICT AND LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION DENIAL OF CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR 36 NORTH CLOVER STREET.

The Common Council is in receipt of a notice of appeal from a decision of the Historic District and Landmark Preservation Commission (HDLPC) dated December 12, 2019. Pursuant to 19-4.5(13) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Poughkeepsie (the “Code”) any person aggrieved by a decision of the HDLPC with regard to a certificate of appropriateness, may within 30 days of the decision, appeal to the Common Council for review of the Commission’s decision. This section further states the review that shall be conducted based on the same record that was before the HDLPC, using the same criteria.

The Common Council will hear this appeal at two special meetings called for the sole purpose of either upholding the decision of the HDLPC to deny the applicant a Certificate of Appropriateness or overturn the decision of the HDLPC.

This session, the second meeting; will be for the Common Council to “deliberate” and/or explain its determination and to conduct a vote. A simple majority (5 votes) is needed to overturn or uphold the decision of the HDLPC.

Cancelled: Common Council Special Meeting – July 16, 2020

NOTICE OF CANCELLATION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Special Meeting of the Common Council that was scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. has been cancelled. SEQRA Resolution R20-67 and Purchase Resolution R20-68, authorizing the purchase of 227 Mill Street and 26 Mansion Street, along with Resolution R20-69 approving a bond resolution for the purchase and rehabilitation of 227 Mill Street and 26 Mansion Street will not be reconsidered, as the owners of the Italian Center withdrew their offer for the city to purchase the building.

Special Meeting of the Common Council – June 29, 2020

COMMON COUNCIL SCHEDULES JUNE 29 SPECIAL MEETING TO SET PUBLIC HEARING FOR LOCAL LAW AMENDING CHAPTER 7 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE (THE “RIGHT TO KNOW ACT”)  AND TO HOST PRESENTATIONS ON POLICING REFORM AND RACIAL JUSTICE. 

On Monday, June 29, 2020 at 6 pm the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council will hold a Special Meeting using Zoom videoconference software for the purpose of setting a Public Hearing on the consideration of a Local Law Amending Chapter 7, City Officers and Employees, of the Code of The City of Poughkeepsie, aligned with the “Right to Know” Act. 

During the Special Meeting, the Common Council will open dialogue on Policing Reform and Racial Justice in collaboration with community stakeholders.
