Common Council Meeting – April 19, 2021

Effective immediately and based upon notices and health advisories issued by Federal, State, and Local officials related to the Coronavirus, the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council will not hold in-person meetings. Until further notice, all future City Council meetings (including public hearings) will be held via videoconferencing, as permitted by the NYS Open Meetings Law. Due to public health and safety concerns, the public will not be permitted to attend at the remote locations where the City Council members will be situated. The public, however, will be able to fully observe the videoconference meeting with the information posted below:

Common Council Public Hearing – May 3, 2021

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to the Charter and Codes of the City of Poughkeepsie, Administrative Code, Section 14.04, a Common Council Public Hearing will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 5:30, and will be held via videoconferencing, (as permitted by the NYS Open Meetings Law), for the purpose of receiving comments on the proposed nomination of 112 Mill Street as a Local Historic Landmark.

Common Council Chairperson Calls for Special Meeting on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 6:00 pm to Adopt Proposed Police Reform and Modernization Plan to Fulfill Executive Order 203

The City of Poughkeepsie Common Council will meet over Zoom on Monday, March 29, 2021, at 6:00 pm to ratify the draft Police Reform and Modernization Plan as ordered by the Governor of the State of New York.

“Each local government entity that has a police agency operating with police officers as defined under 1.20 of the criminal procedure law was asked to perform a comprehensive review of current police force deployments, strategies, policies, procedures, and practices, and develop a plan to improve such deployments, strategies, policies, procedures, and practices, for the purposes of addressing the particular needs of the communities served by such police agency and promote community engagement to foster trust, fairness, and legitimacy, and to address any racial bias and disproportionate policing of communities of color.

After offering drafted plan for public comment and review to all citizens in the municipality, and after consideration of such comments, the plan shall be presented to the local legislative body in such political subdivision, which shall ratify or adopt such plan by local law or resolution, as appropriate, no later than April 1, 2021.”

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Common Council of the City of Poughkeepsie, pursuant to Section 2.05 of the City Charter hereby convenes a Special Information Meeting on Monday, March 22, 2021., and will be held via videoconferencing, (as permitted by the NYS Open Meetings Law). All members of the Common Council, the Mayor, City Administrator and heads of all City Departments and Offices shall be in attendance.  At this meeting, the general public may inquire of any such persons with regard to any aspect of City Government.
