Mayor declares April “Poughkeepsie Poetry Month”

Mayor Rob Rolison has declared April “Poughkeepsie Poetry Month” to highlight the extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets. The Academy of American Poets established the month of April as National Poetry Month in 1996.

The Mayor noted that Poughkeepsie celebrates the Annual PoughETRY Fest, created and curated by Bettina “Poet Gold” Wilkerson, former Poet Laureate of Dutchess County,  who who coined the spelling “PoughETRY” to honor the place where she resides.

To find out more about the PoughETRY Fest, which will be held online from noon to 8 p.m. April 24,  email Hudson River Housing and Poet Gold at [email protected] .
