City of Poughkeepsie Undertakes Sanitation System Survey, Sets Public Meeting

The City of Poughkeepsie is completing a comprehensive study and analysis of its sanitation system in order to better gauge how residents are disposing of their household waste, recyclables and yard materials.

Funded by a Dutchess County Government Efficiency Grant, the City has engaged MSW Consulting — a leading provider of sanitation and recycling operational analysis services for government — to conduct a top-to-bottom review of the City system, including infrastructure and equipment, pricing and financial modeling, operational efficiencies and future capital needs.

Survey

As part of the overall study, a survey of public opinion and service satisfaction is being sent to approximately 2,000 randomly selected customers. Survey responses will help inform city officials as they seek to identify efficiencies and plan for capital expenditures.

“We are very proud of our Sanitation team and the service they provide,” City Administrator Marc Nelson said. “As essential workers throughout the current health crisis, they are doing a wonderful job throughout our community. We would greatly appreciate the public’s time in completing the survey if you were selected to receive one. It is done online and is completely anonymous. The responses gathered, together with public comment made at the upcoming public meeting, will help inform our current budget process, as well as our longer-term strategic plan.”
