Section 8 Program Expands Services in City & Town

On January 1, 2015, Interfaith Towers at 66 Washington Street in the City of Poughkeepsie will be receiving project-based vouchers under HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Program.  The City anticipates administering 128 project-based vouchers to existing residents at the building.

“We are pleased to offer project based vouchers to our income eligible residents through this RAD conversion and look forward to working with Section 8 Administrator, Margaret Palumbo and her staff as they administer the vouchers” said Mary Scileppi, Manager of Interfaith Towers Apartments.

HUD also stripped Section 8 vouchers from the Town of Poughkeepsie and has awarded the City of Poughkeepsie Section 8 program to administer 70 vouchers for Town residents.

Also beginning January 1, 2015, the City of Poughkeepsie will absorb the Town’s 70 vouchers and will merge with the City of Poughkeepsie’s current Section 8 program.  All vouchers for the City and Town will be administered under one program by the City of Poughkeepsie.

Section 8 anticipates opening the tenant-based waiting list for new applications in early 2015.

“The City of Poughkeepsie is continually looking for opportunities to serve a greater number of residents, especially those in need of affordable housing assistance.  I am pleased that HUD considers the City’s Section 8 program exemplary and has immense confidence in our administration abilities,” said Mayor John C. Tkazyik.
